SAS EOF would like to put a spotlight on Salena Coaxum. An alumna from the program, Ms. Coaxum graduated from Rutgers University in 2008. During her time at Rutgers University, Ms. Coaxum majored in Psychology and Communication and minored in Africana Studies. She has established herself as a Wellness Entrepreneur where she makes it her mission to help people make and achieve their health and fitness goals.
Through her busy schedule, Salena Coaxum finds time to give back to the SAS EOF program by serving as a mentor in the Alumni Virtually Influencing Student Success Mentoring Program. She is currently mentoring two young women and helping them develop academically, professionally, socially and personally. Ms. Coaxum challenges and supports them in managing their time, organizing their course preparation time, and finding new ways to enhance their studying efforts.
'I can honestly say the ladies and I are a great match', says Salena. 'Each week I feel closer to them. They are honest about their college experiences and respectful during our calls. I look forward to our next chat this week.'

The School or Arts and Sciences (SAS) Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Program RU1st Seminar Class for the Rutgers Business School EOF Class of 2022 was hosted by Johnson & Johnson Professionals, Georges Richa & Edle Seraspe and special guest speaker, Vice President Scott Trzaskawka on Friday, October 26, 2018. Students learned about Johnson and Johnson’s credo and enjoyed creating and practicing 60 second commercials. Campus partners from the Rutgers Business School including Dean Markowitz, Mr. Alfred Blake from Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Programs and Ms. Florence Herman and Ms. Zoe Makropoulos from the Office of Career Management have also presented to the class this Fall.
Aaron Ramos, a Mason Gross School of the Arts alumnus, is teaching 7th and 8th grade students in the Franklin Township Public Schools dances that he says “people need to see and hear,” with subjects including immigration and the #MeToo movement. Dear SAS EOF Students, Rutgers Faculty and Staff and Community Partners!
This year statewide, EOF is turning 50. Here at Rutgers we are so excited to celebrate this milestone! We will be celebrating with a week full of events at all Rutgers Locations. Students who register and attend our October 1st event will receive a commemorative bell to mark this wonderful occasion!

The EOF Program is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year! Rutgers University will be hosting events across all of the campuses the week of October 1st.
The two events for students in New Brunswick are taking place on Monday, October 1st and Thursday, October 4th.
On Monday, October 1st there will be a student procession from Milledoler Hall to Old Queens. Plan to arrive at Milledoler Hall at 11:15 am and wear your EOF apparel! The Old Queens bell will be rung 50 times in honor of this momentous occasion.
On Thursday, October 4th, there will be a series of EOF alumni talks, from 12-5 pm in the Busch Student Center. You can attend for the whole afternoon, or you can stay for as long as your schedule permits.
Being a first-generation college student, I never thought I would have had the opportunity to experience what most people do in a lifetime in 5 months. Through the help of the SAS EOF department and their never-ending encouragement, I was able to make one of my dreams come true. I had the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Valencia in Spain. At first, the thought of studying abroad did not seem attainable. My family has always been extremely supportive and always pushed me to follow my dreams regardless of the adversities I needed to overcome to accomplish them. I decided to pursue studying abroad and applied through the Global Education Department. Fall 2017 in Valencia, Spain was surreal. The people, the atmosphere, and even the air felt different. While in Europe I took every opportunity to travel the world; 2 continents, 9 countries, and 40 cities. I crossed from Europe to Morocco, Africa on a ferry, saw the famous Eiffel Tower, and was able to travel to see my family during the Christmas season. All the knowledge, experiences, and people I gathered while abroad will always hold a special place in my heart and those 5 months will never be forgotten.
