The Transfer and Nontraditional unit of the SAS EOF program serves the academic, counseling, and financial needs of transfer, non-traditional, adult and part-time students, the majority of whom combine an academic career with their personal and professional lives. By being fully integrated into the University's academic support/counseling system, Transfer and Nontraditional students have access to the full complement of student support services available to all students, thereby allowing for a positive transition from a student's non-academic or previous academic experiences to and through the academic experience at Rutgers University. It is our mission to foster an intimate learning environment that will promote excellence in undergraduate education for non-traditional students, and to prepare them for the changing world of work in order to assume positions of leadership in their communities and the state.

ELIGIBILITY & ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS FOR TRANSFER & NON-TRADITIONAL STUDENTS

Preliminary Criteria and Admission Procedures

The EOF state program is available to first generation college students who are:

US Citizens or Resident Aliens
able to attend school full-time for the majority of their studies
residents of New Jersey for two years prior to receiving EOF funds
meet the current EOF admission eligibility and income guidelines

All Transfer and Nontraditional (TNT) EOF applicants must complete the following:

EOF Questionnaire which is included in the Rutgers undergraduate admissions application
a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and ensure that Rutgers is listed as the school of first choice on the FAFSA
return the admissions acknowledgement form upon acceptance
submit an EOF transfer/referral form (provided by the EOF Counselor at your previous school)
schedule an interview with the TNT EOF Director or Counselor by calling 732-445-3091, ext. 120. The interview is required in order to make a broad assessment of the student's motivation, potential, talent, and eligibility based on any recommendations/referrals, school records, academic and personal history, and other application material
No transfer or non traditional applicant will be considered for the program without this interview

If the candidate meets the preliminary criteria, the Director will forward his/her name to Financial Aid for an in-depth review. The names of any applicant deemed eligible are forwarded to the state EOF office for confirmation of funding. All admitted Transfer and Nontraditional EOF students confirmed for funding will be notified by phone or email.

What is different for me as a transfer student?

EOF funding for transfer students is dependent upon your eligibility and interview. Priority is given to students who were in an EOF program prior to their enrollment with Rutgers University. If you were previously in an EOF program, you should provide the Rutgers TNT Director with an EOF transfer/referral form. This form is provided by, and should be signed by, the EOF Director at your previous institution. However, please note that even though you may be eligible, transfer slots are limited and not guaranteed.

Transfer students entering into the EOF program also do not participate in a summer program as a traditional aged student right out of high school may. Nevertheless, we are very committed to making sure you will make a smooth transition to Rutgers and have accessibility to all the resources available to you. If accepted, we encourage all transfer students to make an extra effort to get to know the EOF staff and the existing family of students, and to participate in all EOF sponsored programs and events. Your personal efforts will be critical to the success of this partnership.

What if I'm part-time?

If personal, financial and/or academic concerns require you to pursue a part-time course of study, you may do so according to these guidelines:

You must enroll in at least six credits and maintain minimum standards of academic progress.
Students with no prior college may begin on a part-time basis.
Students with transfer credit who have never received EOF funding must attend full-time for at least one term before being eligible to attend part-time.
The regulations allow up to four part-time semesters of EOF funding.
Each semester of part-time attendance will count as one-half of a semester of grant eligibility, and
You will not receive funding for more than four part-time semesters.

What if I'm transferring with credits from another institution?

Students who were formerly matriculated at accredited institutions outside of Rutgers University may be entitled to transfer credit subject to the following guidelines:

No more than 90 credits from four-year institutions.
No more than 12 of the last 42 credits earned for the degree may be transfer credits.
All credits are evaluated by the appropriate academic department in consultation with the dean of SAS.
No credit is accepted in transfer if the grade earned is below the equivalent of C (2.000) at Rutgers.
Grades from institutions other than Rutgers are not posted to the transcript or included in the Rutgers cumulative grade-point average.
Courses that were not offered in traditional classroom format (for example, independent studies, internships, fieldwork, etc.) are typically awarded transfer credit only upon the recommendation of the appropriate academic department.
Transfer credit ordinarily is not awarded for courses passed by examination at other institutions.
Students should consult with an advisor to determine if these courses actually provide an adequate background as a prerequisite to the next level of coursework in SAS.
Academic departments often have restrictions on the application of transfer courses toward specific major or minor requirements.

Extension, professional, military, technical training and continuing education courses typically have informal or no prerequisites and are designed to provide discrete, targeted knowledge rather than being a part of a broader liberal arts curriculum. As such, many of these courses are not awarded credit in SAS unless they are clearly equivalent to courses offered by SAS.

What if I'm Transferring from a NJ County or Community College?

If you have successfully completed an Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.) transfer program at any public New Jersey county or community college, then all academic courses taken at the community college awarding the degree and required for that degree program are accepted for transfer credit, up to a total of 60 credits. Transfer credits from NJ County or Community Colleges for a student who did NOT earn an associate degree are considered under the policy guidelines above.

which professional fields are in high demand in the State, as well as other job opportunities.

What if I'm transferring from Colleges or Universities outside the USA

Students who wish to obtain transfer credit for courses taken at institutions outside the USA may be required to furnish a course-by course evaluation from an acceptable professional evaluation service or, in some instances, a review of course syllabi and transcripts by the appropriate SAS academic department.
